Tent City...Becoming Armed?!

ok..so my first task will not be as easy as i first thought. i saw on the news report the other night that the tent city along fountain creek is becoming violent.... apparently since the city of colorado springs wants to outlaw the tent city, they have been publicizing the area.... in return random people are driving up with friends etc and taking pictures, treating the homeless like a zoo. so now the homeless are acquiring weapons into their belongings and could potentially attack others.

this said, i am reaching out to a man named brett irverson. he was stated on the news report as being part of the homeless outreach team. i have yet to receive feedback from my church, so i am going to work on this guy to get me in with the right people. i wholeheartedly believe in helping the homeless. there was a time where i would see these people on corners begging for money etc etc....and i would lock my car's doors and think to myself 'why, they are just going to buy booze with it..why cant they get a job.whatever they can go work at mcdonalds..etc etc'... i no longer feel this way. yes, the majority of the homeless have illnesses whether mental, physical, something...and yes...most drink heavily to self medicate...but who are we to judge? they are still hungry! still need blankets, clothing, even love.

ok. im off the soap box. :)

well my husband gets home from a brief stint in iraq on wednseday, he has my sd card for my camera..and frankly i like to photograph and document. and i intend on doing it every step in my project.

therefore..

while im waiting on a WAY to safely bring some grub to the tent city (yes i have 2 small babies under 2).... i will be making meat pies (because they are easy to make and freeze...that way i can do some every other night or so..and end up with a bunch... and before we deliver we can just fry them up)... ok so not the healthiest...but its FOOD and yummy i might say (im from louisiana). im also considering making s few batches of homemade cookies as well.

hopefully i can get contact made with the right people and get connected into the outreach. i would love to help. even if its just a little bit...thats what my blogs about "even just a little bit"

One of the Basic Human Needs

FOOD.

No one can live without it. Can you?

I have always dreamed of winning the lottery, not only to pay off student loans, car notes, mortgage..etc etc... but also to help others. How great it would be to pay off my parents' mortgages? My in-laws'? To buy a stranger a car? How wonderful would it feel to fly to a third world country to pay and build homes for the homeless?

Well, I am definitely not rich, or even have a surplus of money to handout. We are a one income family. So....why not start small? Every little bit helps, right?

I emailed our chuch for information on local tent cities. I know it is illegal here to have one, but where else do the homeless have to go? It's cold here. They must need warmth and food.

my first task will be simple enough...
make and bring FOOD to the homeless.

Taking on a New Adventure.

My husband is deploying on his fourth tour to Iraq come March. I am a stay at home mom, with two babies under two. I need a project. Something that could potentially affect others. Maybe changing the world is a little out of my reach, but have you ever been to a baseball game where they do the "wave". It's all about a ripple effect. Why not start my own "wave"?

My project:

To be a humanitarian. To pay-it-forward. To show others that kindness is still out there, and to hopefully motivate complete strangers to do the same.

My end result?

To begin an eye-opening ripple effect.... to change the world. To change attitudes.

LET IT BEGIN!
